Back to work without weaning: the 2-week plan
You can keep breastfeeding and work. With a plan, not with guilt.
Going back to work is one of the hardest moments in breastfeeding — not because of the milk, but the logistics and the guilt. Good news: with two weeks of prep, most moms keep the breastfeeding relationship they want. Here's the step-by-step plan.
The 2-week plan
Day -14
Start pumping ONCE a day (after the morning feed, when supply peaks). Freeze it all: it's your cushion, not your daily supply.
Day -10
Introduce the bottle (or cup) — ideally offered by SOMEONE ELSE. Many babies refuse it from mom because… they smell you.
Day -7
Dress rehearsal: leave for 2-3 hours and let the caregiver do a full feed. Fix what fails NOW, not on your first workday.
Day -3
Set your pumping schedule at work (about every 3 hours) and pack your kit: pump, bags, cooler, wipes.
Day 1
Nurse right before leaving and upon reunion. Night feeds maintain your supply — and they're your reconnection time.
In Mexico, federal labor law (art. 170) provides two extra 30-minute breaks per day for nursing or pumping during the breastfeeding period (or, by agreement, a one-hour shorter workday). Ask HR about a lactation room — more and more companies have one. Verify your specific case with HR or a labor advisor.
To maintain your supply
Pump as OFTEN as your bb would feed — supply is supply and demand
Look at photos or videos of your baby while pumping — seriously, it helps letdown
Nurse on demand when together (mornings, nights, weekends)
A low-output day isn't the end — an on-demand weekend recovers it

Your stash is a cushion, not your daily source: what you pump at work TODAY is what your bb drinks TOMORROW.
